Foundation in Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1955
The Ursuline Mission started in DRC in 1955 thanks to the devoted response of five pioneers namely: Sr. Catherine Vande Mierop, Sr. Tereza Schets, Sr. Lucie De Doncker, Sr. Amanda Peeters and Sr. Michaelle Van Hacht.
They responded to the voice of God calling them to leave Belgium to provide schools that were needed to uplift the girls through education in the RDC.
From five pioneers, today more than sixty Ursuline Sisters continue the mission by witnessing the love of God among people who are facing current challenges in the DRC: Low attendance of girls in school, illiteracy, health care, abandoned children, the promotion of women’s dignity , among others, so that all may have life and have it to the full.
